THE ESSAY
The personal statement and supplemental essays are important opportunities for you to help college admissions officers get to know you. Admissions folks are looking for a sense of who the applicant is beyond the transcript and activities list. They want to know the essence of you, what makes you feel alive and intrigued. Conveying all that in 650 words can be tricky, especially since they are also looking for students who can write cogently and with depth. My years of English teaching and writing coaching experience make me well suited to professional guidance in this area.
MORE ABOUT…
FINANCES
There are ways! Tax-free savings programs, community-based and college-awarded scholarships and grants, financial aid… A common misconception is that private colleges and universities are unaffordable. In many cases, they have the most money to give in financial aid. Affording college is an area of the process that takes some navigating. I have resources and experience. I’d love to help.
THE COLLEGE TRIP
I love college trips! I’ve planned and led many; I have information and experience to share. Once we figure out the list of schools of interest, we can strategize about which to visit and when. You can learn a lot about a school online, but there’s no better way to get a sense of a place than to walk around the campus, look at the dorms, the students, the dining halls and classroom buildings, the outdoor spaces and see if you can imagine yourself there. It’s an exciting part of the journey.
standardized TESts
Many institutions have chosen to remain test optional, but some have gone back to requiring test scores. We can discuss strategies and options.
athletics
The NCAA has academic requirements we can work through to determine eligibility for students in Division I and II schools. There is a balance of GPA, standardized test scores, and coursework that I can help navigate for interested student athletes.
